Our First Steps to Employment Programme is fully funded by First Steps Future Training and is designed as a progression route for learners who have successfully completed our Construction Taster Course.

The programme is open to learners aged 16 and over who have demonstrated:

Good attendance and timekeeping

A positive attitude and willingness to work

Commitment and engagement throughout the taster programme

Strong performance during training activities

This programme provides the opportunity to progress from introductory construction training into recognised qualifications, practical skills development, work placement experience, and potential employment or apprenticeship opportunities within the construction industry. It is designed to support motivated learners who are ready to take the next step towards a sustainable career.

First 6 Weeks – Training Centre Programme

During the first 6 weeks, you will attend our training centre and complete a structured programme designed to prepare you for employment within the construction industry.

You will begin by undertaking your Level 4 Health & Safety Qualification, gaining a nationally recognised certification that lasts for life and demonstrates your understanding of safe working practices within the workplace.

Once your Health & Safety qualification has been achieved, you will receive CSCS test preparation and support, including practice assessments to ensure you are fully prepared. You will then attend the Pearson VUE CITB Test Centre to complete your official Health, Safety and Environment Test. Upon successful completion, we will support you with the application process for your CSCS Card, providing you with an industry recognised credential required for access to most construction sites.

After obtaining your qualification and CSCS test pass, you will complete an Employability Skills Unit, helping you become work ready through:

Professional CV creation and updating

Interview preparation and coaching

Job search support

Workplace expectations and communication skills

Building confidence for employment

You will then take part in practical, hands on activities across our training centre, gaining knowledge in a range of construction trades and skills, including:

Groundworks, Painting and Decorating, Brickwork, Joinery, Aluminium Tower Assembly

Final 6 Weeks – Employer Work Placement

Following completion of your training, qualifications and practical activities, you will undertake a 6 week work placement with an employer. This placement provides the opportunity to demonstrate your skills, work ethic, reliability and commitment within a real working environment.
